Nicvax is an experimental smoking cessation drug that is supposed to help smokers fight their cravings for 
nicotine and withdrawals. The drug failed the 3rd and final tests to help smokers quit smoking. Nabi Biopharmaceuticals (NABI), the developer of a vaccine for nicotine addiction, plunged to a 13- year low in Nasdaq trading after the treatment for smoking cessation failed to show effectiveness.
Although this attempt to help smokers quit the habit, there are new products that are not only helping smokers quit, these new smoking devices are helping smokers lose weight as well.
Nabi, based in Rockville, Maryland, fell as much as $4.08, or 72 percent, to $1.55 in Nasdaq Stock Market trading, the lowest price since October 1998. The shares were down 69 percent to $1.74 at 10:21 a.m. in New York.
The drug, NicVAX, is an investigational vaccine aimed at aiding smoking cessation and preventing relapses in recovering smokers. NicVAX didn’t help smokers quit in the first of two Phase 3 clinical trials designed to evaluate effectiveness, Nabi said today in a statement.
Subjects using NicVAX quit smoking at a similar rate of 11 percent compared with subjects who received a placebo treatment, the company said.
